education, certifications and location. The full salary range for
this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all
employees in these positions across the national market and

within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding
compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus
earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in
the compensation plan for the role.
Description Liberty Mutual has an immediate opening for a Complex
Claims Unit Manager role, to support our Commercial Casualty Excess
Coverage and Specialized Claims Unit. In this role, you will manage
the Casualty Environmental Claims team, which handles Primary and
Excess Casualty environmental matters (including PFAS, and other
emerging risks, etc.), along with some Specialty Claims (sexual
abuse, molestation, human trafficking, etc.). The role manages the
day-to-day operations of a complex claims unit that handles high
exposure and highly complex primary and excess cases covering
multiple policy periods, and may also involve class action matters.
This team handles Environmental claims of varying degrees of
complexity throughout the life cycle of the claim, including
conducting investigations, recommending adequate reserves,
monitoring, documenting, working with coverage and defense counsel
and settling/closing claims in an expeditious and economical manner
within prescribed authority limits. This position is a managerial
role, and the ideal candidate will have experience supervising
staff.
This is a 100% remote position, but you will be required to go into
the office twice a month if you reside within 50 miles of one of
the following offices: Bala Cynwyd, PA; Boston, MA; Hoffman
Estates, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV;
Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Syracuse, NY; Tampa, FL; or Weatogue, CT.
Please note this policy is subject to change.
The typical starting salary for this position is $138,000 -
$170,000, and is dependent on candidate location and
experience.
Responsibilities:
Reviews and approves, within assigned authority limits, claim
expenses and settlements that exceed the claims employee's
authority level appropriately refers claim expenses and settlements
that exceed personal authority limits for approval.
Strong coverage, writing, collaborative, time-management, and
communication skills needed.
Hires, develops and manages staff in order to create a high
performing results oriented staff.
Creates and maintains a positive work environment and culture that
drives employee engagement and motivation.
Provides on-going coaching, and conducts performance reviews.
Identify performance problems and initiate disciplinary
actions.
Acts as a technical expert and resource for staff. Refers problems
and issues out of authority level to Management.
Management experience a plus.
Casualty environmental experience required.
Achieves goals for a top-tier customer experience, employee
engagement, loss cost accuracy and reserving, and consistent,
quality claims handling practices.
QualificationsAdvanced knowledge of Commercial Casualty insurance,
claims investigation, coverage evaluation, loss assessment,
reserving, insurance legal & regulatory environment, claims
processes, applications/systems and procedures, medical
terminology, and finance.
Other skills required include: planning/organizing work,
communication (verbal, written, presentation, etc), collaborating
with others, diplomacy/tact, business/financial acumen, and
adaptability.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 7+ years of progressively more
responsible related work experience.
Primary and Excess experience, especially with Commercial Claims,
is preferred!
Prior Management experience with P&C Claims is desired.
