Summary The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist , under general
supervision, assists physicians during cardiac catheterization and
electrophysiology (EP) lab procedures . The role involves preparing
procedure rooms and equipment, monitoring patient conditions,
providing routine and emergency care, and ensuring compliance with
safety and quality standards. The specialist also supports
training, quality control initiatives, and overall lab operations
while delivering excellent patient care and customer service.
Essential Functions Responsibilities Clinical Procedural Support
Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures ,
including: Arteriograms and catheterizations Permanent pacemaker
and implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) implantations Coronary
and peripheral interventions Thrombolytic therapy Prepare and
maintain sterile fields for lab procedures. Perform pre- and
post-procedure patient care and monitoring . Orient patients to
catheterization and EP procedures and address questions to ease
anxiety. Monitor ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedances during
EP procedures and report variances to physicians. Operate RF and
Cryo ablation systems , 3D mapping systems, and maintain procedural
documentation. Manage and process cardiac and peripheral imaging,
including stenosis testing and image formatting. Patient Safety
Emergency Care Follow all national and state radiation safety
regulations for patients, staff, and self. Perform emergency
procedures such as CPR and defibrillation when required. Transport
patients to and from procedural areas safely and efficiently.
Documentation, Quality Compliance Collect registry and quality data
and complete required documentation accurately. Gather
catheterization data and prepare detailed procedure reports .
Participate in quality control initiatives , including daily,
monthly, and quarterly audits (e.g., NPSG, turnaround times,
performance improvement). Support hospital and departmental
initiatives such as LEAN, NOBLE, and 5S projects . Equipment,
Inventory Lab Management Perform routine calibration and
maintenance of complex lab equipment and report issues promptly.
Order, manage, and maintain inventory of procedure room supplies.
Ensure procedure rooms are adequately stocked and that equipment
and supplies are within expiration dates. Coordinate and assist
with annual inventory audits . Training, Collaboration Professional
Engagement Assist in the orientation and training of new staff,
students, and team members. Participate in departmental, hospital,
and professional committees as required. Oversee committee
responsibilities when assigned. Demonstrate strong customer service
skills and professional conduct at all times. Key Success Factors
Ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular
instrumentation and techniques . Strong knowledge of cardiovascular
anatomy and physiology . Availability for on-call duties per
department and facility policy. Certifications / Licenses /
Registrations ACLS Required within 30 days of hire/transfer BLS
Required within 30 days of hire/transfer Must meet one of the
following credential requirements: ARRT-R and MRT (Texas Medical
Board), or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist), or
RCES (Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist), or CEPS
(Certified EP Specialist), or CCDS (Certified Cardiac Device
Specialist)
