Join our Team! We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Web Application Firewall (WAF) Engineer with expertise in Akamai and Cloudflare technologies to join our cybersecurity team. As a WAF Engineer specialized in Akamai and Cloudflare, you will be accountable for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust WAF solutions to protect our web applications against evolving cyber threats. You will partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective deployment and optimization of WAF policies across Akamai and Cloudflare platforms.

This position is based in Plano, Texas or Louisville, KY, in a hybrid work environment, coming onsite 2-3 days per week.

Salary Range: $93,000 - $105,000 annually + bonus eligibility. This is the expected salary range for this position. Ultimately, in establishing pay, we'll consider the successful candidate's location, experience, and other job-related factors.

Responsibilities:

1. WAF Implementation: Design, deploy, and configure WAF solutions using Akamai Kona Site Defender and Cloudflare WAF to safeguard web applications against a wide range of cyber threats, including but not limited to OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities, DDoS attacks, and bot traffic.

2. Policy Development: Develop and maintain WAF policies tailored to the specific security requirements of our web applications, leveraging the capabilities of Akamai and Cloudflare platforms. Continuously monitor and update these policies to adjust to emerging threats and minimize false positives.

3. Incident Response: Partner with the incident response team to investigate and respond to security incidents related to web application attacks detected by Akamai and Cloudflare WAF. Analyze WAF logs and alerts to identify malicious activities and implement mitigation strategies in a timely manner.

4. Security Review: Conduct regular security assessments of web applications using Akamai and Cloudflare tools to identify vulnerabilities and recommend remediation measures. Perform penetration testing and vulnerability scanning to validate the effectiveness of WAF defenses across both platforms.

5. Performance Optimization: Monitor the performance of Akamai and Cloudflare WAF solutions and fine-tune configuration settings to ensure optimal security without impacting web application performance. Identify and address any issues related to latency, throughput, or false positives to maintain uninterrupted access to web applications.

6. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure WAF configurations and policies comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements, including PCI DSS, GDPR, and HIPAA. Generate regular reports on WAF effectiveness, security incidents, and compliance status for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

7. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and security analysts, to integrate Akamai and Cloudflare WAF solutions seamlessly into the web application infrastructure. Provide guidance and training to team members on best practices for WAF configuration and management across both platforms.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Extensive experience working as a WAF Engineer with expertise in Akamai Kona Site Defender and Cloudflare WAF.
• CDN configuration experience, onboardings, guidance in improving performance, researching, and implementing new features as they become available.
• In-depth knowledge of web application security standards and common vulnerabilities, including OWASP Top 10.
• Hands-on experience with configuring and managing WAF policies on Akamai and Cloudflare platforms.
• Proven knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and customization of WAF configurations.
• Experience with web application security testing tools such as Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, or Acunetix.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex security issues across Akamai and Cloudflare environments.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and customization of WAF configurations.
• Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical professionals verbally and in writing. About Us
